SUCCESS STORY: SLIPPERS

Here’s an update on Slippers, who has been in her forever home for three and a half years now after spending almost a year at the shelter.

“I met Slippers on October 18, 2016. A ‘tug on your heart’ Facebook post about her led me into the shelter that day. I could tell the kind ladies at the desk were surprised I asked specifically to see Slippers. Apparently, this future sweetie of mine was a long-time resident (almost an entire year by then) with very few visitors and a reputation of being quite a brat. I was told she spent a lot of time facing the back of her cage, she barely ate or drank, she stopped cleaning herself, she was prone to UTIs and was believed to be at the beginning stages of kidney failure… requiring special food. I think she was so sad from watching all of her shelter friends get adopted 🙁 I remember thinking she was soo small and soo stinking cute! How in the heck is this kitty still here and not adopted?!

Her cage door was opened and I held out my hand. I was prepped that she’d likely stay at the back of her cage and might even hiss… instead, she slowly walked to my hand and pressed her little face against it shocking both me and the shelter volunteer.

That’s all it took for me to fall in love. I knew almost nothing about cat ownership but with the amazing help from the shelter and my awesome boyfriend who also loves cats, Slipper’s came home with me that very day. I don’t know why no one took a chance on her before or why she was so sweet to me that day. The romantic in me believes she was just waiting for me to get there. 🙂

Fast forward a few years and Slippers is doing so well!
She takes luxurious naps allll day on a warmer.
She comes running if she thinks you’re eating tortilla chips.
She paws at the covers every night when she’s ready to snuggle. She has super soft but very straight fur, it sticks up on her back like a Stegosaurus and she loves to shove her head into your face for kisses… haha.. that’s one of my favorite things about her!

She gets a kidney panel checked annually and is doing well! We love her so much we became volunteers at the animal shelter to help spread more love in our community! Shout out to the incredible staff and volunteers at the Clatsop county animal shelter – they are doing such AMAZING work!

Slippers is the absolute most sweetest kitty … she has brought me so much healing, companionship (friendship), hope, joy and love. I am so grateful that she chose me.
Her name at the shelter was Slippers and it was so fitting we couldn’t change it!
But here a few of her nicknames: Slipski, Slips, Slippidi-do-da, Slipparian, Slippers from the streets, Bunny, Bunny Rabbit, Steg, Stegski and Janet.”
