SUCCESS STORY UPDATE: MS PUDGE

Pudge has been enjoying life with Dan, Sue, Olive and Herbie since late last year. Here’s an update we just received:

“Pudge loves the current stay-in-place order.   She is very good at staying in place.  One place…for a long time…until dinner.  Then she is happy to move from her spot in the sun to her dinner bowl.  We have enjoyed spending oodles of time with our old greyhound and new to us bundle of love. Pudge continues to amaze us with her many noises.  There seems to be a new one for every occasion.  There’s one for scratching her ears, another for rubbing her belly, and yet another for enjoying a good meal.  Our greyhounds (Olive and Herbie) are quiet and graceful, yet we love the Cacophony of Pudge. She snores like chainsaw at full throttle, but chirps happily while eating a treat. She has also mastered the art of weaving between the greyhound legs during walks.  Despite her rotund physique, she stealthily finishes their dinners and beats them to every sunbeam before they know it. We love this furry package! Thanks to all of the staff and volunteers at the Clatsop County Animal Shelter! You have brought our furry soulmate home :)”

Selina loses a leg but not her spirit

Selina

by Rodney L Merrill

Dog photographer, Christina, says “Selina always seems to look offended in her photos, but is a nice cat.”

She is an adult tabby cat with a beautiful coat in shades of brown with black stripes. As a result of a hit-and-run accident, Selina’s entire right front leg had to be amputated. Having no known home, she came to the Shelter when ready to leave the vet. Selina has done remarkably well at the Shelter. Her shaved front quarter has regrown its fur, her big incision with stitches too innumerable to count are fading into the past. She appears reasonably happy, is eating well and is quite efficient at hopping about on three legs.

Our talented cat photographer, Chelle, is out of commission for awhile after having foot surgery. Hobbling around the house got her to thinking about Selina lately.

“Selina came to the shelter fresh from the vet. Her front leg had been damaged beyond repair and had to be amputated. I remember the day I met her. I couldn’t help but think how scary it must be to have to adjust to having lost a leg in unfamiliar surroundings with an ever changing sea of faces. Selena was terrified and it was no secret.

I worried she might never reach that turning point we all wait for, but then one day, one of our incredible volunteers worked a little magic and helped her turn that corner, and what a turn it was!

Selina now waits at the door of her cage when we arrive so she can come out for some magic. She socializes a little and then finds her spot to stretch out and nap. As wonderful as it is to see her engaging life now, it would be even better to see her go out the door. We’re determined that this sweet girl find the proper home she deserves.”

Missing a leg limits her jumping ability; but it doesn’t limit her mobility, use of the litter box, or, apparently, her enjoyment of life.

Ed says:

“Selina is friendly, affectionate and is a real trooper to maintain such a pleasant disposition through all that’s happened to her. What she now needs a guardian angel to comfort and love her, and give her a secure, nurturing home. PERHAPS THE ONLY HOME SHE HAS EVER HAD.”

If you’d like to share your home with a quiet, gentle cat, please come in and meet our sweet Selena. Getting adopted is the last corner she needs to turn.”
