John Boy Success Story

Photo Collage of Dax formerly John Boy

Dax formerly John Boy

John Boy, one of the seven puppies named after members of the Walton Family, is now known as Dax.

Melissa, his adopted human,  sent us note on his progress:

In early April, we drove all the way from Seattle to adopt him after falling in love with his PetFinder profile the night before. He’s now doing wonderfully in his new forever home! He loves running around Seattle parks and being the center of attention of all of our neighbors. We love him so much! Attached are a few pictures we’ve taken since we adopted him; he’s grown so quickly! We just wanted to say thank you for giving us the opportunity to adopt Dax into our home!

He’s a very happy, healthy little pup! We love him so much, and are so grateful for our adoption experience with you guys.”

Thanks, Melissa! These updates are like a little pep pill. Knowing that one of our wards has settled into their home-for-life and is doing well makes me smile and swell with joy. I’m sure other volunteers feels the same.

Jasmine Success Story

Jasmine Settles Quickly Settle In

by Rodney Merrill

We become fond of our lodgers pretty darn quick and wonder about them after they leave.  No wonder, then, that we love hearing about them and seeing them in their new digs.

Julie and Clyde wrote to us to tell us that things are not only working out well for Jasmine but working out remarkably well and remarkably fast!

Jasmine is now Jacie and is already best friends with Raliegh, also a former shelter dog known back then as Michael.

“… you’d think that Jacie has lived with us for two years not just two weeks. She has fit into our household beautifully.

Jacie pretty much copies everything he does, even barking when she has absolutely no idea what he barking at (he’s barking at a car coming up the driving and she’s looking in the trees thinking there must be a suspicious bird in the area).

She’s pretty bonded to her “Angry Bird” toys and likes to keep them close by. All in all she’s very sweet, eager to please and so well behaved. We love having her as part of our family!”

Whither thou goest, I will go

There was a follow-up note and more photos soon after.

“Just a couple more pictures for you, she’s so stinkin’ photogenic I have about 100 pictures of her already! (I get a little carried away) Jacie is still doing fabulous. Her and Raleigh are just about inseparable; where one is the other is and she is definitely making Raleigh more active which is a really good thing.

Jacie just discovered the squeaky toys this weekend and wore herself out running around the yard squeaking her toy. She’s been great with all the company we’ve had come to the house and is definitely part of the family!”

Letters like these, with photos of former lodgers in their new homes remind us of why we are here. And it tells us we are making a difference.

What better way to start a new week?

Zeus (formerly Teagan)

Zeus’s new family adores him. Here’s what they have to say:

“Zeus is our gentle giant! Although he has only been with us for two months, everyone in our family is fiercely bonded to him. His devotion, gentleness, sweet disposition and joy in the everyday moments of life are a gift and we know how grateful and lucky we are to have found this beautiful, loving dog. Thank you to all the volunteers and staff at CCAC for taking such good care of him while he was… in shelter care.”

Thank you Jane, Doug, Conor, and Simon.

Maurice (formerly named Mickey)

Success story: this just in from Gregory age 10 and owner of Maurice (formerly named Mickey)

“When Maurice first arrived home and was put in my room to adjust, he ran straight under my bed. That very night I got in my bed, scooted under the covers and pulled up the blankets. There he was, sitting on me, waiting for me to pet him. The head butting and kissing were hard to sleep through at first, but I got use to it. One night when I slept in another room, Maurice even came and found me! He is still a shy cat in the daytime, but outgoing at night. One important note- He is deathly afraid of mice.
The only time I’ve heard him meow is when a mouse invaded my room. He ran around, jumped on me and meowed like he wanted me to kill it.
There is no such thing as a monster under my bed, but there is such a thing as a Maurice under my bed!”

Elysian aka Marley

Elysian’s adopter Susan told us “Elysian is now called Marley ☺ Marley has become one of the family, and is also making rounds and getting to know our neighbors – he has made many new friends. He is mellow, loves pets and being held which brings out his big purr, and does love to eat! After a little trepidation, he has become friends with our 12 year old golden retriever. Marley is playful and fun too – we are so happy to have found him in a spontaneous visit to the cat show …in Seaside!”
