Volunteering at the Clatsop County Animal Shelter

Want to serve your community in a very real way? CAA is always in need of hard working and reliable volunteers!
Are you looking for unconditional love? Need an outdoor activity and lots of good exercise? Hoping to boost your mood and get rid of stress? Want to spend time with people want to talk about dogs and cats?
You can have all of this and that glow when you see the cats and dogs go out the front door to their new homes and know that you have made their shelter stay more enjoyable and helped get them ready for adoption.
New volunteer Lisa tells us…
“I have been a volunteer dog walker for 4 months and only wish I had started years ago. I care deeply for animals, but was reluctant to volunteer because I didn’t think I would be able to handle it emotionally. I was wrong, I had no idea how rewarding the experience would be. Every walk, trick, praise and pat that I contribute helps to improve the animal’s social skills and quality of life while they wait for their forever home. I look forward to my shelter shifts and always feel uplifted when I leave. The fresh air, movement, quality time with the dogs, and connection with an amazing group of shelter staff and volunteers fills my cup.”
CAA has plenty of opportunities, including dog walking, cat socializing and cuddling, fostering, transporting animals to vet appointments, and just loving on our animals.
Call the shelter to schedule an orientation! 503-861-7387. Orientations are held every Friday and Saturday, 10:00 to noon. Check out volunteer videos we made at https://clatsopanimalassistance.org/volunteer-opportunities/

Maddie is our KMUN, THE ASTORIAN, 94.9 THE BRIDGE, WARRENTON KIA, and HITS 94.3 KRKZ Pet of the Week for the week of December 26, 2021

Maddie’s former family say she is a delightfully happy package of wiggles, snorts, and snores, with lots of love to give.  She is always ready for an adventure, but equally okay with a lazy day by the fire.  Maddie is fit and muscular, and also capable of unparalleled gentleness. Protectiveness is one of her qualities, so she will need diligent socialization and time spent to work her into new situations and with new people. Maddie is a five year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier weighing in at 54 pounds. She needs a fenced yard is not good with cats or kids, but does very well with the other dogs at doggie day care.

Dog walker Marcy adds, “I usually head straight for Maddie when I get to the shelter. She’s a calm girl and so easy to walk, definitely one of my favorites.”

Benny

Adopted!

This one-year-old Lab/Bernese Mountain Dog is a total charmer. He’s happy, personable, and likes everybody, and he’s so handsome. Benny will make a great family dog or running buddy; he’s always up for adventure and for snuggles afterwards. And rainy days, no problem!
