Alaska is our KMUN, THE ASTORIAN, 94.9 THE BRIDGE, WARRENTON KIA, HITS 94.3 KRKZ, and CLATSOP NEWS Pet of the Week for the week of December 13, 2020

Alaska is looking for a home where she can share her affection and love of life (although her affectionate nature doesn’t extend to cats). This young German shepherd will happily spend hours playing ball or walking before cuddling up for a nap.

Alaska needs ongoing medication and a special diet; call the shelter at 503-861-7387 for an appointment or for more information about her special needs. The shelter is open 11:00 to 4:00 Tuesday through Saturday. You can also fill out an application at the shelter’s Adopting a Pet page: https://www.co.clatsop.or.us/animalcontrol/page/adopting-pet. Scroll to the bottom of the page for the application.

Watch her in action here.

Cindy is our KMUN, THE ASTORIAN, 94.9 THE BRIDGE, WARRENTON KIA, HITS 94.3 KRKZ, and CLATSOP NEWS Pet of the Week for the week of December 6, 2020

Cindy is almost fifteen, with a degenerative disc disease. She’s looking for a soft landing for her final years. Volunteers tell us, “Our Miss Cindy, a senior tuxedo female, is proving to be a nice, friendly and lovely lady cat after making the adjustment to temporary shelter life. She enjoys the usual under-ear and chin scratching and now, with the help of a daily medication, even likes to have her back petted. She is a larger-sized girl who will be a beautiful, quiet companion as the only cat in the household.”

Pet meet and greets are by appointment only, so if you’d like to meet Cindy, call the shelter at 503-861-7387 to set up an appointment.

Maya is our KMUN, THE ASTORIAN, 94.9 THE BRIDGE, WARRENTON KIA, HITS 94.3 KRKZ, and CLATSOP NEWS Pet of the Week for the week of November 29, 2020

This six-year-old American Bully mix is a favorite at the shelter. She is such a good girl – easy to get out of her kennel and excellent on a leash – that we use her at all of the dog walker orientations. Maya will require a fully fenced yard for playing and adventure and will need to meet any furry friends.

Pet meet and greets are by appointment only, so if you’d like to meet Maya, call the shelter at 503-861-7387 to set up an appointment.

SUCCESS STORY: Sierra and Fisher

These two kittens were adopted in June and have clearly stolen the hearts of their family. Their mom tells us, “We didn’t start the typical way of wanting kittens. Our dog died and Oscar our 15 year old cat was extremely lonely. He would cry when he saw cats outside. I put on cat Youtube videos. He would run over and talk to the cats on TV.  Obviously he wanted friends.

We had a wonderful experience selecting our kittens and even were able to visit them until they were old enough to take home. It had been a long time since we had babies. A lot of joy but work also as they get into everything. Dishwasher, cabinets, washing machine etc.

I even found one taking a nap in our cast iron skillet on the stove. Before you turned anything on you needed to take a kitten inventory. That is the hard part but you do get lots of laughs.

The easy part is all the fun and love.  Exciting to see what they thought of some everyday objects. Stairs, drawers, coffee grinders. At six months they are still fascinated with the ice maker dispenser and come racing out whenever they hear it. I then place a few ice cubes in their water dish. They won’t leave until all the ice has melted.

Sierra and Fisher have been a wonderful addition to our home.  They are best friends with Uncle Oscar.”

Your donations make it possible for CAA to provide help and hope for the dogs and cats in Clatsop County. Because of you, we’re able to provide veterinary care for the shelter animals – from wellness check-ups for kittens to life-saving surgeries.

Did you know that CAA volunteers feed and medicate, socialize and walk, love and protect our local shelter animals? CAA volunteers devote their lunch breaks, weekends, and holidays – rain or shine – to provide daily care for Clatsop County Animal Shelter dogs and cats. Volunteers transport sick animals long distances to see specialists, and foster animals when special care is needed. CAA volunteers fundraise, run social media campaigns, and consult with potential adoptees – all help get our cats and dogs into safe and loving homes as quickly as possible. There are no paid employees here – just animal lovers.

With that in mind, join CAA’s Pup Strut and Kitty Cuddle 2020! Donate any amount that feels good- because we can’t do it without you. The cats and dogs of Clatsop County thank you!
